Anqi Luo (ON) Qualifies for Team PANAMERICA
September 8th, 2010- Guayaquil, Ecuador - 14-year old Anqi Luo will be the only Canadian at the 2010 ITTF Global Cadet Challenge, the de facto World Championships for table tennis players 15 years of age and younger.
To qualify for the team, Luo had to finish at least fourth at the PANAM Cadet Championships that just ended in Guayaquil, Ecuador. The Toronto youngster started the competition with an upset winning against Valentina Lertora of Peru, the top seed in her preliminary round-robin. Luo advanced from her group with a 2-0 record and faced Maria Lorenzotti of Uruguay in the quarter-finals. A 4-2 win secured her a spot among the top four. In a closely fought semi-finals match against Brazilian Caroline Kumahara Luo had to concede her first match by a score of 1-4 (11-6, 10-12, 5-11, 10-12, 7-11).
