September 12th, 2010
Guayaquil, Ecuador - It was Silver in the end. After making international headlines on ittf.com for upsetting the seeding order, Canada ousted Sweden in the Quarter Finals match-up with a solid team effort. Both, Anqi Luo and LiQuan Ly won one of their matches and defeated the Swedes in doubles play.
Next up was Ecuador, the #2 seed of the tournament. This time 14-year old Anqi Luo proved to be the match winner being involved in all three points for Canada. Not intimidated by her older adversaries, the youngster from Toronto defeated Daniela Andrade by a score of 3-0 and Tania Almendariz 3-1. She teamed up with LiQuan Ly in doubles to secure Canada's 3-1 win.
In the finals, however, Team USA was too strong. Luo and Ly were successful in doubles, but had to acknowledge the superiority of the US Junior Team powerhouse of Ariel Hsing and Lily Zhang losing the finals 1-3.
For 14 year old Anqi Luo and LiQuan Ly (16) this was their first podium result in the Under 18 age category at an ITTF World Junior Circuit competition - For the two young Canadians Silver never looked so good.
